HIGH SCHOOL REPORTS: Final week of classes before the holidays

Montague Regional High School

The last day of classes for the year is Dec. 21. The first day of school in 2019 is Jan. 3.

Final exams will take place Jan. 24-30. Students who are taking Math 521A, Math 521B or Math 521K will write on Jan. 24 at 9 a.m. All students writing a block exam will write on Jan. 24 at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 is turnaround day, with no classes or exams. A more detailed exam schedule will be available on the school website in January.

The MRHS Music Department will present "A Kids' Christmas", an evening of children's Christmas tunes featuring the choir, band and instrumental music class on Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Tickets are $6 each, $5 for students and seniors. There will be a cake auction and sweet treats sale. One of our music department families, The Sibbicks, who recently lost their house in a fire. A donation box will be available for people who wish to support them.

Charlottetown Rural High School

Members of the E.Y.E.S. Committee recently completed visits to local senior homes to encourage seniors to participate in recreational games and activities. In addition, students are planning a 24-hour food fast event to raise awareness about food security as well as some funds to support the local foodbank.

Charlottetown Rural High School will be hosting the Special Olympics Unified Bocce Provincials on Dec. 18. The leadership class has formed a planning committee and together with Special Olympics have organized the day. Families are welcome to come to the school to cheer on the Special Olympians. A schedule for the day will be posted on our school website.

All forms for the Community Service Bursary are now to be completed online. Forms can be found online.

The updated 2018-2019 Scholarship Booklet is available online.

On Tuesday, Mount Allison University will be at Charlottetown Rural. They will be waiving the application fee. Anyone interested in meeting with a representative is asked to sign up in Student Services and request their transcript.

Morell Regional High School

A Christmas concert is planned for Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. Admission is by donation.

The administration expresses its appreciation to all the staff, students and community members who helped bring the spirit of the season into the building over the past month. Special appreciation goes to those who contributed to the food drive.

The first day of school for students in the new year is Jan. 3. A parent advisory meeting is set for Jan. 9.

Colonel Gray High School

Parents are advised they can follow their son/daughter’s daily attendance and tests online. To receive a SAS password and sign up with your e-mail, contact the main office.

Mount Allison University will visit at lunch time on Dec. 18. The last day of classes is Dec. 21. School starts on Jan. 3.

Kinkora Regional High School

The ever-popular Yuletide Yippeetime is back with fun contests and activities. It will run from Dec. 18-21. The annual Christmas concert, featuring the KRHS band, is set for Dec. 18. Storm date is Dec. 20.

On Dec. 6, The Blazer Bistro offered an all local culinary special. It featured P.E.I. Mussels served with ADL butter, lightly breaded baked haddock, honey roasted carrots and baby potatoes, with strawberry mousse for dessert.

On Dec. 19, a free Christmas turkey dinner for the entire student body will be served at noon.

Educational assistant Ceilidh Gaudet has accepted a position at Amherst Cove Consolidated School. Her contributions to KRHS are appreciated. A warm Blazer welcome is extended to Lydia Pickering, the new educational assistant.

The last day of class for 2018 is Dec. 21. The first day of school for 2019 is Jan. 3. Final exams will take place Jan. 24-30.

Westisle Composite High School

Public Schools Branch has issued a statement on the ongoing problem with SAS: “This issue has been noted along with several other schools. In my testing, there does not seem to be an issue with or Hotmail accounts, but there appears to have been a change in Google's handling of our outbound mail leading to those Gmail accounts getting blocked or severely delayed." Updates will be posted to the parent Facebook group.

The P.E.I. Community Service Bursary has an updated format and must be filled out online this year. More information is on the Westisle Parents page for anyone with further questions. The last day of classes for students is Dec. 21. They will return on Jan. 3.
