Zellers at the Charlottetown Mall will be closing for good following business hours on Thursday, March 14, 2013.
A spokesman with Hudson’s Bay Company said no decisions, meanwhile, have been made in terms of the Zellers location in Summerside.
The Charlottetown location is one of only five Zellers stores in the Maritimes that will be converted into a Target store.
The Summerside location was not acquired by Target.
“We’re still reviewing our options for the non-acquired location,’’ said Tiffany Bourre, public relations with Zellers. “It’s business as usual until we have a go-forward strategy.’’
Zellers plans on holding a liquidation sale for the last three months of its operation at the Charlottetown Mall, meaning the prices will be slashed before Christmas.
There are approximately 100 employees at the Zellers location in Charlottetown.
Target hasn’t announced when it plans to open in the Charlottetown Mall but management with the mall told The Guardian Wednesday that it will take “several months’’ to revamp the 108,000 square feet of space.
It will cost more than $10 million to renovate the location at the Charlottetown Mall.
According to the mall management, Target is aiming for a fall 2013 opening.
