CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Skills Canada P.E.I. is trying a variety of initiatives to get people interested in trades this week.
The organization hosted a Repair Café and offered try-a-trade activities in conjunction with Holland College’s Campus Tour Day on Saturday.
It’s all part of National Skilled Trades and Technology Week, a national initiative that runs until Friday. The week focuses on the promotion and awareness of career opportunities in skilled trades and technology in Canada.
Throughout the week, organizations from across the country will be working with Skills Canada to promote skilled trades and technology careers to youth, parents and the public.
Skills Canada P.E.I.’s Repair Café included tradespeople, who performed repairs on items such as electronics, musical instruments and clothing free of charge for members of the community.
Meanwhile, previous provincial and national Skills competitors hosted try-a-trade activities to encourage young people to explore careers in trades and technology.
Skills Canada P.E.I. will also provide presentations to students across the province.
