WELLINGTON, P.E.I. - Six events are being planned by and for Evangeline area co-operators and co-operatives Oct. 14-20 for 2018 Co-op and Small Business Week.

Some of these events are held annually, while others are brand-new.

The biggest event is the Co-operators' Forum, being held this year at the Centre Goéland in Cape Egmont on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 5:30 p.m. Two representatives of each of the area's co-ops are invited to attend to share their recent successes, challenges and future plans.

Towards the end of the free, informal supper, the Co-op Order of Merit will be presented to a deserving person. Attendance is by invitation only.

The Chez-nous Co-operative in Wellington will celebrate Co-op Week, as well as its 25th anniversary, with three events. The first will be a mass for seniors celebrated by Father Eddie Cormier on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 10:30 a.m. Everyone is invited.

On Thursday, Oct. 20, a co-op bingo will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. All seniors from the community are invited to attend. A variety of prizes, mostly donated by local co-ops, will be available. A light lunch will be served. As an admission fee, attendees are invited to contribute non-perishable food items that will later be given to families in need.

Then, on Friday, Oct. 19, Chez-nous will host its first dance for residents of the home and other local seniors from 7 to 9 p.m.

Credit Union Day will be celebrated at all three branches of the Evangeline-Central Credit Union (Wellington, Tyne Valley and O'Leary) Thursday, Oct. 18. There will be draws, prizes and snacks. People are also invited to come to the credit union branches that day to drop off their non-perishable items for the food drive being organized for local food banks.

The Wellington Co-op will also host its Fun Day on Friday. Customers will get a chance to participate in contests and win a variety of prizes. The Co-op will also be accepting food donations for the local food banks.
