SYDNEY, N.S. —

There will be no inductees into the Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce business and philanthropy hall of fame this year after COVID-19 precautions forced the cancellation of the annual event.

Despite any formal announcements, the annual gala celebration for the local business community had been tentatively set for Thursday evening.

Since 2002, 60 Cape Breton business leaders have been inducted into the hall of fame, while four philanthropists have been recognized since that aspect of the ceremony began in 2016.

Last year, Bill Mozvik, the founder and owner of R & A Paper, and the owner of Smitty’s Family Restaurant and Habaneros, was named to the hall of fame, as were Sheila Gillis, founding partner of MGM & Associates, and Jim and Lori Kennedy, founders and owners of Louisbourg Seafoods.

John Eyking and his late wife Jeanne Eyking were inducted into the 2019 philanthropy hall of fame.

The chamber’s next hall of fame event is scheduled for Thursday, May 27, 2021 at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre.

Further information and 2021 nomination details will be released at a later date.
