The province is encouraging tourism operators to add Motion Pay to their electronic payment offerings for Chinese clientele.

Motion Pay allows users of Alipay and WeChat Pay to use QR codes on their mobile phones to make purchases.

The system is now in place for customers of the Brudenell, Dundarave and Links at Crowbush Cove provincial golf courses.

Nearly 1,500 Canadian businesses now offer Motion Pay’s service. China’s mobile payment market sees close to $20 trillion U.S. dollars in transactions annually and more than 90 per cent of those are completed using Alipay or WeChat Pay.
