Islanders wanting to fly out of the Charlottetown Airport are losing one of the last options after Air Canada announced it will temporarily discontinue flights between the city and Toronto.
A statement from the Charlottetown Airport Authority said the airline announced today that it will make the change as of Jan. 11 until Feb. 10.
The change will leave daily Air Canada flights between Charlottetown and Montreal on a 50-seat regional jet as the only passenger service at the airport.
Air travel out of Charlottetown ground to a near halt because of the COVID-19 pandemic with the airport saying the number of passengers dropped by 94 per cent from April to November.
WestJet already pulled its flights from the Charlottetown schedule in November.
The airport said a decision on the changes to Air Canada’s flight schedules beyond Feb. 10 will be made in the coming weeks based on market conditions and demand.
In 2019, more than 383,000 passengers used the Charlottetown Airport.
