CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The co-founder of On-Line Support in P.E.I. will receive the Charlottetown Chamber of Commerce’s Entrepreneur of the Year.
The award will be presented during the chamber’s 2017 President’s Excellence Awards on Nov. 15.
“Jamie’s ability to see the shape of the future led him to invest in information technology opportunities at an early stage, often taking significant financial risk in order to succeed,” said Rory Francis, president of the chamber.
Hill started the call-centre business On-Line Support (OLS) in 1985, before the need was obvious to most in the technology sector. Between 1998 and 2000, OLS had grown to more than 430 employees.
Hill divested his majority share of OLS in 2000, but remained on the board of directors, seeing operations grow to nine locations in P.E.I., Nova Scotia and Ontario.
In 1993, Hill founded PEINet, the first provider of internet services, data communications and network management in the province.
Hill formed Cycor Communications, obtained controlling interest in IWave, which is focused on the research, development, and manufacturing of an online prospect research database to aid non-profits in their major gift fundraising efforts.
Today, the graduate of Holland College’s programmer analyst program holds interests in real estate development and continues to support and invest in IT start-up companies. Hill has also supported and volunteered with Special Olympics P.E.I., Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Children’s Wish Foundation, IWK and the Holland College Foundation.
The President’s Excellence Awards take place from 6-9:30 p.m. at the Delta Prince Edward. Tickets are available online at www.charlottetownchamber.com, or through the chamber office at 902-628-2000.
