CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Prince Edward Island’s Workers Compensation Board (WCB) scored an 82 per cent in service satisfaction among employers, according to a survey.
In the fall of 2017, Corporate Research Associates polled 500 Island employers for its survey measuring their satisfaction with a variety of service dimensions, including effectiveness, fairness and service delivery.
On an alternating biannual basis, the WCB polls its two key stakeholder groups - injured workers and employers - to gauge satisfaction with the WCB’s services and to identify areas for improvement.
Based on the survey results, 80 per cent of employers surveyed believe the WCB is effective in providing service, which is on par with 2015 and up from 74 per cent in 2013.
A majority (85 per cent) said the WCB is fair to P.E.I. employers, which is on par with results in 2015.
The 2017 results show around nine in 10 employers believe the WCB is doing a good job of keeping employers informed and the WCB is providing a benefit to employers.
The results also demonstrated that the majority of employers feel that they do not experience administrative “red tape” in their interactions with WCB.

Recent WCB service improvements:
• Provided additional resources in the Workplace Services area to improve claims adjudication and management processes and return to work outcomes
• Expansion and increased use of online services
• Annual monitoring of the WCB’s employer classification to ensure the system remains fair and relevant to Island workplaces
• A decade-long downward trend in rates for employers
• Distributed $21.4 million to employers as part of a surplus distribution plan
