CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - Prince Edward Island-based Cows Creamery is bringing home eight awards including Reserve Champion Cheddar from the annual Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto.

The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair takes place each November at Exhibition Place in Toronto and welcomes more than 300,000 guests.

The Fair is the world’s largest combined indoor agricultural and equestrian show, and showcases Canada’s leaders in agricultural, food, and equine excellence.

Cows’ Avonlea Clothbound Cheddar won three separate awards - Reserve Champion Cheddar, Silver Trier Award for the Highest Aggregate, and Best Aged Cheddar.

“It is an honour to have received eight awards,” said Cows’ cheesemaker Armand Bernard.

“There are so many excellent producers across the country, we’re incredibly honoured to be recognized.”

All Cows Creamery’s cheddars and butters are made with milk from dairy farms across Prince Edward Island.

“Prince Edward Island milk is a very important ingredient in all of our dairy products,” said Bernard. “We know that P.E.I. milk is always very high quality and we feel it gives us an edge over our competition.”

The company produces six cheddar cheeses and three types of butters and is based in Charlottetown.

Known for its ice cream, Cows Creamery started producing cheese and butter 12 years ago and has received much recognition since that time.
