A young Charlottetown entrepreneur is heading off to the Oscars to pitch her beauty products to the stars.

Nicole Mead, owner and operator of WAX!T, has bought into Celebrity Connected’s annual event honouring the Academy Awards in Hollywood, California.

The 25-year-old Mead says the “potential is exciting’’ to have her products placed in the hands of celebrities through a company that bills itself as Los Angeles’ premier gifting suite.

“I don’t hold expectations,’’ she cautions. “I’m just going to be me. I’m just going to have fun.’’

Mead’s marketing manager, Lucie Newson, hopes the private gifting gala held March 1 — one day before the Oscars — will help “create a buzz’’ about Mead’s products.

Mead, who has been operating what she believes is the only walk-in waxing studio in P.E.I. for the past three years, has created her own line of beauty products. She plans to place all three of her products into the hands of celebrities at the gifting suite. She will also be threading celebrities’ eyebrows before applying one of her products.

Brittney Jarrett of Celebrity Connected expects Mead’s products to do well among the 50 to 60 vendors attending.

“The label is great, the product is amazing,’’ Jarrett states in an email to The Guardian.

“And Nicole, herself, is a stunning person with a fun spunky personality. I cannot wait to work with her on this opportunity. I know she will exceed all expectations.’’

Mead has developed a skin conditioner, called LOVE1T that uses pure emu oil. DEFINE!T, a concealer, highlighter and primer, and SHAPE!T, a cream-based, water-resistant eyebrow filler, round out her product line.

Mead says the products have been selling well, accounting for about half of her business revenue. The other half of her income is from a growing clientele walking in to her Charlottetown shop in the Kirkwood Mews for hair removal.

Mead says she is “very surprised actually’’ with how quickly her business is growing.

She has always had a passion for the beauty and skin care industry. After graduating from Blanche MacDonald, a high-end beauty school in Vancouver, she travelled abroad and continued to train with some of the best in the industry.

Mead says she quickly discovered that her talents lay in the art of hair removal, especially the fine art of eyebrow shaping.

She hopes to expand her business by opening other outlets in the future.

“Maybe in Hollywood, who knows,’’ she says.
