The Island Impact hosted West Royalty Junior Rockets in softball league action Monday evening at City Diamond. The Rockets were looking to extend their record to 2 - 0, but knew it was a tough assignment against the host team for this year's Ladies Eastern Canadian Softball Championship in August.
The Rockets got off to a quick start, scoring two runs in the top half of the first but weren't able to muster any offense beyond that. In the bottom half of the first the Impact tied it up, scored three more in the second and two in the sixth for a 7 - 2 victory.
Top batters for the Rockets were Rebecca Gallant and Katie Batt, both 1-2, and Hailey Pound 1-3. Bryanna Goodwin suffered the loss with the relief help from Rachel Creamer and Kelly Huizing. Leading the way for the Impact were Katie Keoughan 3-5, Karen Gallant 2-3, and Rebecca Creelman 2-4. Chantel Commiskey picked up the win, with the save going to Kate Domarchuk, giving up one hit and striking out 10 over the final four innings.
Next action for the Junior Rockets will be July 2nd versus the Subway Sluggers at Queen Elizabeth Fields.
