Western Red Wings defeat Metros for 3-2 series advantage in IJHL final

ABRAM-VILLAGE, P.E.I. – The Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings are a win away from repeating as Island Junior Hockey League champs.

The Wings defeated the A&S Scrap Metal Metros 6-2 Tuesday on home ice to take a 3-2 series lead in the best-of-seven final. They can win the title Thursday in Game 6. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Cody Banks Arena. Game 7, if necessary, is slated for Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Evangeline Recreation Centre.

Abel Arsenault, Isaac Knox, Alex Morrissey and Silas Handrahan each had a goal and an assist to lead the Western attack on Tuesday. Connor Morrissey and Isaac Callaghan also scored in the win.

Chasse Gallant had two assists while Cole Hackett, Spencer Groom, Chandler Wood and Dawson McCormack each picked up one.

Pat McGuigan scored both of the Metros goals while Connor Gray, Logan Toole, Grant Koughan and Barrington Duffy had helpers.

Luke Oliver made 33 saves for the win while Sam Walsh stopped 37 shots in the loss.

Western held 2-0 and 4-0 period leads and cashed in twice on the power play. The Metros had one power-play goal.

The Red Wings won the first two games of the series, 4-0 and 4-3, before the Metros fought back with 4-3 victories in the last two games.
