FREDERICTON, N.B. – Laura Kaye scored 14 and Krystal Osburn added 12 off the bench to lead the UNB Varsity Reds to a 77-66 victory over the UPEI Panthers Saturday in Atlantic University Sport women’s basketball action.

Javon Masters had 24 points, eight rebounds and five assists as the UNB men completed the sweep with an 88-56 victory over the Panthers.

Women

Jenna Mae Ellsworth scored 21 to lead the Panthers while Reece Baxendale chipped in 15 and Carolina Del Santo added 13 and 12 rebounds.

UNB held quarter leads of

UPEI led 24-20 after the first quarter, but trailed 40-36 at the half and 63-47 heading to the fourth.

UNB improved to 8-10 while UPEI is 9-9.

Men

Chris Spurrell added 12 points off the bench for the Reds men’s squad.

Milorad Sedlarevic had 18 points on 4-for-12 shooting from the field and eight free throws to pace the Panthers. Rookie Vernelle Johnson had 10 points and four rebounds in 20 minutes of action, but was 2-for-7 from the free-throw line.

The Reds held quarter leads of 14-11, 42-29 and 67-44.

UNB improved to 15-3 while UPEI dropped to 3-15.

The Panthers finish the regular season at home this weekend with four-point games with St. FX on Friday and Dalhousie on Saturday. Both women’s games are 6 p.m. tipoffs while the men play at 8 p.m.
