CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - The Smith family from Pownal is one of the four families to be honoured by the Atlantic Breeders Crown (ABC) this year for their contributions to Atlantic harness racing.

The Smiths, including brothers Don and Ian and Don’s son Peter, have been among the most successful owners from Atlantic Canada with top horses over the years such as Saul’s Pride, Rumpus Hanover and Pownal Bay Matt and locally bred stars including Maple Leaf Robbi, Touch of Lightning and RE’s Mary.  

The ABC host committee present the families with their awards at a banquet Saturday, Oct. 6, at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park as part of the ABC championship at the oval.

Also being honoured are the Gettos of New Waterford, N.S., the family of the late Cedric Downey and the Hector Williams family from Newfoundland and Labrador.
