HUNTER RIVER, P.E.I. – Hunter River native Miles Pinsent will lead Canada’s men’s soccer team at the Summer Universiade, in Chinese Taipei.

The 29th World University Summer Games are set for Aug. 19-30.
Pinsent is in his 14th season with the UNB Varsity Reds men’s team and led them to three-consecutive Atlantic University Sport (AUS) titles from 2013 to 2015. They won silver and bronze medals during those three trips to nationals.
A three-time AUS coach of the year, Pinsent was also named U Sports coach of the year in 2012.
“What an extreme honour it is to be selected to lead Canada’s men’s soccer team at the 2017 World Universiade Games in Taipei,” said Pinsent. “I have dedicated the past 15 years of my professional life to Canadian university sport so it is exciting to have the opportunity to coach our country’s top student-athletes as they challenge themselves against the best from around the world.”
Pinsent began his playing and coaching careers in the Central Queens Soccer Association.
The roster from across the country, assistant coaches, team leader and medical staff will be announced at a later date.
At the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju, South Korea, the Canadian men’s team finished in 13th out of 16 teams.
