Game 2 was played Tuesday morning against UPEI’s arch-rivals, the UNB Reds. After even play through most of the game, UPEI got their first goal of the pre-season and the only goal of the game to edge the Reds 1-0.
The Panthers goal came in the 73rd minute from the foot of midfielder Sam Smiley, who was set up by veteran Lucas Holmes.
Panther keeper Nathan Ford played a strong game and was credited with three fine diving saves late in the game that kept a pressing Reds squad off the scoreboard.
UPEI will continue their training camp with a game against their cross-town rivals, the Holland College Hurricanes, Friday at 8 p.m., followed by two more friendly games on Saturday and Sunday against Mount Saint Vincent. All games are at the UPEI turf field as part of the Vince Mulligan Cup.
