SoccerStop P.E.I. F.C. will play the Montreal Impact under-23 development team Aug. 19 in Fredericton, N.B.

P.E.I. F.C., the McCain New Brunswick Premier Soccer League champs, will play them at 8:30 p.m. in a friendly at the UNB BMO Centre. The Impact will then meet the New Brunswick playoff champs on Aug. 21.

“It’s a great opportunity for players in Atlantic Canada to get an opportunity to compare their abilities against players at a pro club,” said P.E.I. F.C.’s Jared Murphy. “It will be exciting to be a part of the game.”

Murphy said the Island team wants to enjoy the opportunity, but will be playing to win the friendly.

“They’re going to very skilled and very fit soccer players, but it will be a lot of fun,” Murphy said.

P.E.I. F.C. will play in the Mulligan Cup in late August at UPEI. Most of the team will be playing and training with UPEI this fall before they go to club nationals in Vaughan, Ont., in October.

The UPEI Panthers are hosting the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) men’s soccer championships from Nov. 6 to 9.
