RIVER GLADE, N.B. – Alex Sheehan of Oyster Bed Bridge drove from the rear of the field to win the Westwood Estates Street Stock 40 at Petty International Raceway on Friday night.
Sheehan fought mechanical issues from the onset of practice. The team missed their qualifying heat race, and started at the rear of the 13-car field. Sheehan inherited the lead on Lap 24 ahead of then leader Nick Cudmore of Petitcodiac, N.B.
“We were fighting a leak all day in the car, but the boys were able to dial it in with no practice,” said Sheehan after the race. “I don’t know if I would have had anything for Cudmore. I kind of expected for race control to give him the spot back, but it is what it is. This track is a pile of fun, and we’ll be back.”
Sheehan finished ahead of sophomore driver Michael Cormier of Grand Barachois, and Luc McLaughlin of Geary. Sheehan and McLaughlin both used this event as a tune-up to the 2018 Westwood Estates Street Stock Triple Crown Series.
