HALIFAX, N.S. – Kennisha-Shanice Luberisse scored 18 points and had 11 rebounds to lead the Saint Mary’s Huskies past the UPEI Panthers 60-52 in Atlantic University Sport women’s basketball action Friday night.
It was the first game of the season for both teams.
Katrina Murrell also hit double digits for the Huskies, piling up 13 points and four rebounds.
The Panthers were led by Kiera Rigby who had 17 points and three rebounds, Jenna Mae Ellsworth with 10 points and Reese Baxendale with nine points and two rebounds.
Saint Mary’s controlled the first half the game, winning both the first and second quarter. The Huskies led 32-18 at the half. The Panthers mounted a comeback in the second half, winning the third and fourth quarters by identical 17-14 scores but still fell short in the end.
Saint Mary’s hosts UPEI again today at 6 p.m.
MEN
HALIFAX, N.S. – Nikita Kasongo scored 26 points and had four assists to lead the Saint Mary’s Huskies over the UPEI Panthers 82-71 in Atlantic University Sport men’s basketball Friday night.
Kemar Alleyne was next on the score sheet with 14 points and six rebounds while Nico Brauner and Osman Barrie each had 13 points.
Bryce Corless was the Panthers top scorer with 16 points and two assists.
Other Panthers hitting double digits were Milorad Sedlarevic (13 points), Stefan Vujisic (12) and Samy Mohamed (11).
SMU led UPEI 39-27 at the half. UPEI managed to win the third quarter of the game, 23-19.
UPEI and Saint Mary’s tangle again today in Halifax at 8 p.m.
