FREDERICTON, N.B. – Kiera Rigby had 25 points to lead the UPEI Panthers to an 80-58 victory Friday over the UNB Varsity Reds in Atlantic University Sport women’s basketball action.

The Panthers improved to 9-8 while the Reds dropped to 7-10.

The Panthers started strong, holding quarter leads of 21-8, 41-23 and 63-35.

Reese Baxendale had 16 points, Jenna Mae Ellsworth 14 and Carolina Del Santo 12. Karla Yepez and Del Santo each had eight rebounds.

Mikaela Dodig and Hannah Currie led the Reds with nine points.

UPEI was 20-for-21 from the free-throw line, but 2-for-12 from three-point territory.

Jesse Kendall scored 16 points to pace the men’s Reds squad to a 90-56 victory over the Panthers.

Milorad Sedlarevic had 13 points and Samy Mohamed 10 for UPEI.

UNB held quarter leads of 16-9, 35-22 and 61-4. UNB improved to 14-3 while UPEI dropped to 3-14. The teams play again today at 6 p.m. (women) and 8 p.m. (men).
