Storm defeats Highlanders in feisty affair

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Franklin Session scored a game-high 29 points Saturday to pace the Island Storm to a 115-108 victory over the Cape Breton Highlanders in National Basketball League of Canada action at the Eastlink Centre.

It was the Storm’s fourth straight win to improve to 14-16 while the Highlanders have dropped four in a row to fall to 11-19. Three players (Highlanders Rick Bodiford and Lindsey Hunter as well as Storm forward Brad States) were ejected in the physical contest as the teams battle for the final playoff spot in the Atlantic Division.

Former UPEI Panthers guard Tyler Scott chipped in 19 while Kemy Osse added 15 points off the bench. Du’Vaughn Maxwell had 14 points while Chris Johnson added 10. Session and Jarion Henry each had eight rebounds. Maxwell added seven rebounds, seven assists, four blocks and two steals.

Malik Story had 24 points while Tydran Beaty had 19 for the Highlanders. Former Storm guard Rashad Whack scored 17 points and hauled in six boards off the bench while Chris Braswell had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Bruce Massey Jr. had 14 points, 10 dimes, seven boards and five steals.

The Storm led 31-28 after the first quarter and 57-47 at the half before being outscored 42-28 in the third to head to the fourth trailing 89-85.

The Storm travels to Saint John, N.B., Thursday to play the Riptide at 7 p.m. while the Highlanders host the Moncton Magic Thursday at 7 p.m.
