Kiera Rigby and Mark Lloyd are this week’s UPEI Panther Subway athletes of the week.

Rigby, a fifth-year forward on the women’s basketball team and an honours science student from Charlottetown, averaged 18 points, four rebounds and three steals as UPEI split its first games of the regular season at Saint Mary’s.

“Kiera had two outstanding offensive games against Saint Mary’s, picking up where she left off last year,” said coach Greg Gould. “She also played one of her best defensive games.”

Lloyd, a third-year standoff on the men’s rugby team and a business administration student from Stratford, helped the Panthers defeat UNB to win the New Brunswick/P.E.I. University Men’s Rugby Championship.

“He kicked three of four conversions, two of two penalty attempts, and scored the game-winning try,” said coach Charles Waddell. “Mark controlled the game very well and made sure we played in the right areas from the fly half position.”

The Panthers host St. FX Saturday at 2 p.m. at MacAdam Field for the Maritime championship.
