Richter leads Storm to pre-season victory

SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Al Richter scored 20 points to lead the Island Storm to a 104-96 win over the Saint John Riptide Sunday.

It was the Storm’s first exhibition game of the National Basketball League of Canada pre-season.

Ephrem Davis had 13 points, but was 5-for-10 from the free-throw line, while Jahii Carson added 11 points and five assists. Demitri Harris had 10 points and three blocks while Leon Gibson had eight rebounds and Shawn Vanzant seven.

Chris Early had 19 points and six rebounds to pace the Riptide.

Former Storm players Brian Addison and Olu Famutimi each added 12 points in the loss.

The Storm hit 54 per cent (36-for-67) of its field-goal attempts, 31 per cent (5-for-16) from three-point territory and 68 per cent (27-for-40) from the free-throw line. The Riptide’s percentages were 40, 34 and 67, respectively.

The Storm wraps up the pre-season Tuesday with a home game against the expansion Cape Breton Highlanders at 7 p.m. at UPEI.

The Storm opens the regular season at home on Boxing Day when it entertains the Riptide at 2 p.m. at the Eastlink Centre.
