P.E.I. earns best finish in women’s soccer

Saskatchewan won the contest 3-1 in penalty kicks as Prince Edward Island completed play in eighth place, the best finish for the province at the Games.

“I’m really proud of the girls,” said head coach Graeme McDonald. “Tying the game in regulation time showed that we deserved the eighth-spot finish.”

Men’s softball

Team P.E.I. will play for fifth today at the Canada Games softball tournament in Winnipeg.

Prince Edward Island defeated New Brunswick 8-3 on Thursday as Logan Gallant went 3-for-4 and Jonathan Arsenault was 2-for-2. Each hit a home run.

Avery Arsenault and Ty McAdam also added hits.

Leading 5-3 after four innings, P.E.I. added three insurance runs in the fifth.

Jonathan Arsenault earned the victory, allowing three runs on 10 hits.

P.E.I. plays the winner of the Alberta-Newfoundland and Labrador game today at 3 p.m. Atlantic.

Women’s basketball

Lexi McInnis scored 21 points and hauled in 11 rebounds to pace Team P.E.I. to an 80-20 victory over the Yukon in women’s basketball.

Devon Lawlor, Ashley Plaggenhoeff and Francis Alvarez each chipped in 10.

P.E.I. had quarter leads of 30-6, 49-11 and 70-18.
