Mason, Lapointe take home Hurricanes weekly award

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Kara Mason and Marcus Lapointe are this week’s Holland College Hurricanes athletes of the week.

Kara Mason, a second-year goalie with the Hurricanes women’s hockey team recorded a shutout Saturday as the ‘Canes defeated Acadia 3-0. The Pictou County, N.S., native has four wins, including two shutouts, in five games and a goals-against average of 0.80 on the season.

She is taking the sport and leisure management program.

Lapointe, a first-year libero with the Hurricanes men’s volleyball team, played a key defensive role as Holland College split a pair of five-set matches with St. Thomas.

In a 3-2 win Saturday, the Wolfville, N.S., native recorded 15 digs and an assist while on Sunday he had 11 digs and one assist as the ‘Canes dropped a 3-2 decision.

Lapointe is enrolled in the business administration program.
