Martin Sobey qualifies for triathlon worlds

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Martin Sobey’s year just keeps getting better after the Charlottetown triathaloner qualified for the 2018 ITU world triathlon grand final Sept. 12-16 in Queensland, Australia.

Sobey’s season includes being top Canadian at two international events by finishing 13th overall both times, earning a second at the recent American Triathlon Confederation Sprint Triathlon American Cup in Magog, Que., and winning the elite division of the Grand Prix final A in Gatineau, Que.

He’s moved up more than 150 spots on the world triathlon rankings and now sits 148th. The 22-year-old is ranked eighth in Canada and second in the under-23 category. He lives and trains in Victoria, B.C.

It’s the final race of the 2018 season. More than 5,000 of the world’s best elite and age group triathletes are expected to compete.
