CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Dedication is one word that links Cory Jay, Brenda Millar and Farida Chishti.
And they will be recognized for that dedication Feb. 7 during Sport P.E.I.’s 44th annual awards night at Holland College’s Florence Simmons Performance Hall.
Each have already been announced as winners of awards with Millar receiving the ADL Administrator of the Year award for her work with volleyball, Chishti the P.E.I. Mutual Insurance Official of the Year for table tennis and Jay (cycling) earning the ADL Masters Athlete of the Year.

Here is a short bio of the three winners provided by Sport P.E.I.
Cory Jay
Without a doubt, Cory Jay is one of Atlantic Canada’s finest road cyclists. The Charlottetown native is as talented as they come and he enjoyed a fantastic year in 2017.
With 14 podium finishes, that included nine on top, Jay seems to be improving with age. The Falmouth Flyer Classic, the Keji National Park event and the Nova Scotia Road Series didn’t stand a chance for Cycling P.E.I.’s male athlete of the year, who came out with gold in all three events.
Saving his best for the 30+ Canadian championships, Jay finished his year with gold in the road race, silver in the criterium and bronze in the time trial.
Not looking to slow down anytime soon, Jay is set on competing in the National Pro Series next season.
Brenda Millar
Brenda Millar has been coaching, officiating and volunteering in Island volleyball for more than 35 years.
In 2017, she attended her fifth set of Canada Games as manager of the indoor women’s volleyball team. She not only led fundraising, organizing trips and creating budgets, she helped with coaching, making her invaluable to her team and staff.
This past summer, Brenda became president of Volleyball P.E.I. and in just a few months, she encouraged the development of a new high-performance club for both indoor and beach volleyball.
If all of this wasn’t enough, Brenda officiated more than 50 matches in 2017. Her efforts have without a doubt, left a lasting impact on Volleyball P.E.I. for years to come.
Farida Chishti
Farida Chishti knows her way around the world of table tennis. Having managed Team P.E.I. at the last six Canada Games, she is also a national level umpire, who officiates locally, nationally and internationally.
Early in 2017, Farida officiated at the Atlantic Table Tennis Championships in Charlottetown, and was awarded with the men’s championship match. Later in July, she found herself at the junior and senior national championships in Markham, Ont., where she was named tournament assistant referee.
Farida’s year was capped off in December by attending the Para and US open held at the Las Vegas Convention Centre. The event contained more than 90 tables and 800 athletes.
