ST. PETER’S — An Island fitness club  is toasting the success of two members who recently earned silver and bronze medals at the 2014 national kickboxing championships in Ontario recently.

“I’m so proud of them both,’’ said Aaron Wilson, owner of Train’s Fitness in the former St. Peter’s school house. “We were the only club representing the Maritimes.”

Wilson sent two female fighters, Jodi Phillips and Sherri MacNeill, and both were successful.

“Jodi fought in the K-1 division, faced a tough opponent and refused to give up. She had lost four events before and her dream was to get a win. She got the bronze and her opponent went on to claim the national title.”

Wilson said MacNeill went strong for three rounds in the low-kick division and earned a deserving win before claiming the silver.

“They have shown great perseverance in and out of the ring and sacrificed and trained very hard for the nationals,” said Wilson. “It’s a dream come true for me as well since my club is new and to be at the nationals so early in my career and to have winning fighters is great.”
