CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Acadia Axemen turned a six-point deficit into a 10-point lead with a big third quarter en route to an 88-78 victory over the UPEI Panthers Saturday in Atlantic University Sport men’s basketball action.
The Panthers, boosted by the debut of forward D’Adrian Allen, jumped out to quarter leads of 19-12 and 43-37 before the veteran Axemen went on a 29-13 run in the third quarter and never looked back.
Erik Nissen had 21 points and 10 rebounds for Acadia while Ben Miller chipped in 15 points, 13 boards, seven assists and five steals. Mason Middaugh and Nick De Palma each added 19 points as Acadia improved to 6-1.
Samy Mohamed had a team-high 18 points for the Panthers while Allen had 14 points and 13 rebounds. Milorad Sedlarevic scored 12 as UPEI finishes 0-7 heading into the Christmas break.
Acadia shot better from the field (47.2 per cent on 72 shots) than they did from the free-throw line (47.1 per cent on 17 attempts).
