The Island Storm has bolstered its front line with the signing of six-foot-10 centre Shamus Ferguson from Toronto.
The National Basketball League of Canada team made the announcement on Monday.
Ferguson played at Francis Libermann Catholic High School in Toronto before moving on to Arkansas Pine Bluff University and finishing his university career with the Ottawa Gee Gees of the OUA conference.
For the past two seasons Ferguson was a member of the Mississauga Power of the NBL of Canada.
He started 24 of 78 games over two seasons, last season shooting over 63 per cent from the floor.
His best game came on Jan. 19, 2014, against the Halifax Rainmen when he scored 10 points on 80 per cent shooting from the floor while grabbing six rebounds to go along with three blocks.
“Shamus is a great pick up for us,” said Storm head coach Joe Salerno. “He has been a solid contributor coming off the bench for the Power the last two seasons and I believe he still has a lot of untapped potential. He is extremely athletic and is a very good shot blocker.
“Shamus is the type guy who could be the defensive player of the year in this league. I just think he needs the right opportunity and he’s a great addition to our camp.”
Starting today all Storm fans have an opportunity to purchase season tickets for the upcoming season, which starts Thursday, Nov. 6, in Charlottetown at Eastlink Centre against the Saint John Mill Rats.
