The 2011 Gold Cup Ambassadors were unveiled on Friday.
These eight women will each represent a horse in the 52nd running of the Gold Cup and Saucer Race on Saturday, Aug. 20.
They will also be taking part in the 50th Gold Cup Parade on Friday, Aug. 19, in addition to a whole host of other events.
It’s all a part of the annual Old Home Week, which goes Aug. 11-20.
The 2011 ambassadors are:
Courtney is the daughter of Ronnie MacLean of London, Ont., and Helen Ramsay of Charlottetown.
In the fall she will be enrolling in the resident care program at Holland College. Her interests include hanging out with family and friends, travelling and working with the horses, especially Courtside which she is part owner off.
Chloe is the daughter of Robbie and Betty Boucher-MacDonald of Little Pond.
She recently graduated from Montague High School and will be entering her first year at Saint Francis Xavier University in the fall, taking the human kinetics program. Her interests include sports, travelling and spending time with family and friends.
Jillian is the daughter of Cathy and the late John Furness of Vernon Bridge.
She will be returning to UPEI for her second year in the bachelor of science program.
Jillian likes to spend time with her family and friends and enjoys reading and watching her horse JDF race.
Jade MacNeill Boulter
Jade is the daughter of Lynn MacNeill and Lawrence Boulter.
She recently graduated from Jasper Place High School in Edmonton, Alta., and is planning to attend UPEI in the fall. Her interests include dance, travel and spending time with friends and family.
Kendra is the daughter of Joanne and Geff Holroyd of Winsloe.
She recently graduated from Colonel Gray High School and will be pursuing her studies at UPEI in the fall, taking the bachelor of arts program.
Her interests are sports, travelling and volunteering.
Vannessa is the daughter of Vaughan and Rosemary Doyle of Charlottetown.
She recently graduated from the Charlottetown Rural High School and will be entering Holland College in the fall with future plans for a career in nursing.
Her interests are playing sports, travelling and spending time at the horse races.
With her family having many generations involved in harness racing, she says it makes her very proud to be a 2011 Gold Cup and Saucer Ambassador.
Jessica is the daughter of Bobby and Carol Simmonds of York Point and Sherry Shaw of Warren Grove.
She recently graduated from Bluefield High School and plans to further her studies in the early childhood care and education program.
Jessica’s interests are playing soccer, music, being with her family and friends, watching the horse races and volunteering for the Parkinson Society.
In honour of her grandfather Donnie Simmonds, Jessica is proud to be a 2011 Gold Cup and Saucer Ambassador.
Meghan is the daughter Faye and Paul Saunders of East Royalty.
She recently graduated from the Charlottetown Rural High School. Meghan will be entering her first year at UPEI in the fall, taking the business program. She enjoys travelling, fashion and spending time with friends and family.
