CORNWALL – The Mid-Isle Wildcats’ home opener is part of a big night of female hockey at the APM Centre on Friday.
The Wildcats will host the Central Attack in the P.E.I. Midget AAA Female Hockey League at 7:30 p.m.
“It is a great opportunity to see midget AAA (female) hockey, which is considered by Hockey Canada as a high-performance league, (and) is one step away from university hockey,” said Wildcats head coach Kevin Andrews.
Also on Friday night, atom, peewee and bantam female teams from North River all have ice times as well.
Roster
The 2017-18 edition of the Wildcats, who opened the season with a 4-1 road win over the Attack in Charlottetown on Sunday, has 10 returning players and five newcomers.
“This is a tremendous group of young athletes,” said Andrews. “Some of them have been with our Wildcats’ program for four years, and bring a wealth of experience and set a great example for our team.”
Andrews has liked what he has seen early on.
“The new players have very quickly bought into our team-first concept, and our core values of doing your best and taking responsibility for your actions,” added Andrews.
The Wildcats are coming off a successful 2016-17 season in which they won both the provincial and Atlantic championships to earn the right to represent Atlantic Canada at the Esso Cup in Morden, Man., in April.
When asked about this year’s expectations, Andrews replied: “We have no predictions of how our team will do this season. We can only control what we put into it.”
