Island men's golfers have strong opening round at Canada Games

WINNIPEG, MAN. – Jason Poley and Tyler Hashmi are six and seven strokes off the lead after Round 1 at the Canada Games golf competition at the Southwood Golf and Country Club.

Poley, a Stratford native, shot a 1-over 73 while Hashmi, of Charlottetown, recorded a 74.

Quebec’s Christopher Charles Vandette leads the field after firing a 5-under 67.

Nine Mile Creek’s Alex Taylor shot a 78.

The men’s team is tied for sixth.

Summerside native Mya Chisholm was the top Island female after shooting 97, followed by Summerside’s Reese MacDonald (104) and Kensington’s Lexi Murphy (112). They are in 10th place in the team event.

Quebec’s Sarah-Éve Florence Monique Rheaume leads the field at 4-under 68.

Participants play all four rounds with medals handed out for individual and team.
