Huskies beat Panthers by 20 in AUS women's basketball

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Saint Mary’s Huskies outshot the UPEI Panthers Saturday en route to a weekend split in Atlantic University Sport women’s basketball action in Charlottetown.

Saint Mary’s defeated UPEI 76-56 Saturday after losing 68-64 Friday.

On Saturday, the Huskies hit 46 per cent (27-for-59) of their shots from the field and 53 per cent (8-for-15) from three-point territory. The Panthers, by comparison, went 28 per cent (17-for-60) from the field and 14 per cent (3-for-21) on three-point shots.

Shanieka Wood led the Huskies with 17 points off the bench while Jasmine Cain had 13 and Katrina Murrell 12. Murrell added eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. Cornwall’s Jada Yeo had four points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Kiera Rigby had 18 points to lead the Panthers while Jenna Mae Ellsworth had 13 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Saint Mary’s held quarter leads of 13-11, 29-21 and 49-37 to improve to 6-4 while the Panthers drop to 4-6. UPEI travels to Halifax Friday to play the Dalhousie Tigers.
