CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - It was a solid week of golf for Holland Hurricanes second year player Daria Leidenius who finished in a tie for ninth at the PING Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association national golf championships in Oshawa, Ont.
Leidenius, of Panoka, Alta, struggled in her first day and sat in a tie for 17th entering Round 2, but a better second day moved her up to a tie for 13th.
In Round 3, Leidenius posted the third best score of the day to jump up to ninth place with 18-holes remaining where would ultimately finish in a tie for ninth position.
It’s the first top-10 finish for a ‘Canes women’s player since Tariqua Walikraam in 2013.
Leidenius was also named a CCAA All-Canadian.
The men’s team Spencer Compton (Morell), Guillaume Côté-Généreux (Drummondville, Que.), Jason Poley (Stratford), Alex Taylor (Nine Mile Creek and Jacob Ward (Burton, N.B.)
finished 10th overall.
Individually, Poley finished tied for 26th followed by Taylor (tie 33rd), Ward (tie 41st), Côté-Généreux (tie 48th) and Compton (tie 52nd).
