ALBERTON – One P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League quarter-final series concluded while another started with a bang on Friday night.

Conor Horne was the overtime hero in a marathon opening game as the Western Regals edged the Central Attack 2-1.
Meanwhile, the Kings County Kings, who finished the regular season in third place, defeated the Summerside Capitals 6-4 to complete a three-game sweep and advance to face the second-place Pownal Red Devils in a best-of-five semifinal. The winner of the Regals-Attack series will meet the first-place Mid-Isle Matrix in the other semifinal.

Regals 2 Attack 1
At the Jacques Cartier Arena, Horne, who was set up by Ethan Oliver and Aydan Kinch, scored at 14:24 of the third overtime period to give the Alberton-based Regals a 2-1 win over the visiting Attack, who will host Game 2 in the best-of-five series at MacLauchlan Arena on the UPEI campus in Charlottetown on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Caden Kielly, assisted by Dylan MacDonald, had given the Attack a 1-0 lead after the opening period, but Kane Arsenault drew the lone assist on Oliver’s equalizer in the middle frame.
Goaltenders were Colin Gaudette (Regals) and Matthew Halliwell (Attack).

Kings 6 Capitals 4
At the Eastern Kings Sportsplex in Souris, Jacob MacEachern’s hat trick paced the Kings, who won the first two games 9-0 and 4-2. Ben MacIsaac, Trey Vancolen and Tyson McInnis also dented the twine.
Brandon Gaudet (2) and Parker Cameron (1-1) replied for Summerside.
Kings County held period leads of 3-1 and 5-3.
Nicolas Jamieson earned the goaltending win.
