Women's hockey Panthers end first half on three-game win streak

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Rookie Jenna Pellerin scored the winner with 4:17 left in regulation Saturday as the UPEI Panthers defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 2-1.

It was the team’s third-straight win to finish the first half of the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) season 9-5-0.

Jessie Brown gave the host Panthers the lead with a second period power-play goal.

Tara Morning tied it at 15:33 of the third period, but Pellerin replied 10 seconds later.

Sydnee Baker had two assists while Emma Martin and Cornelia Geib had one for the Panthers.

Courtney Sheedy added a helper for the Tigers (2-10-1).

Marie-Soleil Deschenes made 20 saves for the win while Fabiana Petricca stopped 18 shots in the loss.

UPEI was 1-for-7 on the power play while Dalhousie was 0-for-5.

The two teams open the second semester in Charlottetown on Jan.7.
