TORBAY, N.L. – The Prince County Warriors are off to a winning start at the 2018 Atlantic major bantam hockey championship.
Zach Biggar scored the winning goal in the shootout to lift the Warriors to a 4-3 win over the North West Bulls from New Brunswick in a back-and-forth game at the Jack Byrne Arena.
The O'Leary-based Warriors built a 2-0 lead after one period, but the Bulls answered with three unanswered second-period goals to take a 3-2 advantage into the final frame. Donovan Arsenault, who was set up by Biggar, scored his second goal of the game at 7:34 of the third period to pull the Warriors even on the power play. Sam Hackett (1-1) also scored for the Warriors, who received other assists from Marshall Gallant, Ethan Reilly and Max Chisholm.

Joshua Nadeau (2-1) and Noah Gibbs (1-1) countered for the Bulls.
Turner Ellis put in a strong effort between the pipes in recording the goaltending win.
The Warriors play twice on Friday as they take on Newfoundland and Labrador’s Tri-Com Thunder at 10 a.m., and The Gulls from Nova Scotia at 4:30 p.m. The five-team field is rounded out by the host St. John’s Hitmen, who the Warriors will meet in their final round-robin game Saturday at noon.
The top two teams at the end of the round robin will meet in Sunday’s championship game.
