SUMMERSIDE – Two members of the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals have been recognized by the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League).
Forward TJ Shea was announced as the league’s first star for January on Saturday. It’s the second month in a row Shea has received the award. Shea’s linemate, Brodie MacArthur, was selected as the second star.
In 10 games, the 19-year-old Shea, who’s from Anglo/Tignish, put on an offensive clinic, scoring eight goals and adding 20 assists. Not only did Shea record a point in each of his team’s games in January to extend his point streak to 32 games by the end of the month, he registered multiple points in all but one of those contests.
Highlights for Shea included a five-point outing against the Yarmouth Mariners, and four-point efforts against the St. Stephen Aces and Edmundston Blizzard.
Shea, who was assessed a two-game suspension for a kneeing major penalty with injury in Friday’s 5-1 loss to the Campbellton Tigers, holds a sizeable lead in the lead scoring race, with 93 points in 40.
24-point month
The 18-year-old MacArthur, who’s from Summerside, registered seven goals and 17 assists for 24 points in 10 games.
Like Shea, MacArthur recorded a point in each matchup during the month, extending his point streak to 24 games. He had two four-point efforts against the St. Stephen Aces while on three occasions, the second-year MHLer accumulated three points in a game.
MacArthur is in second place in the league scoring race. He has 68 points in 35 games.
The Capitals, who are 25-14-1-0 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses), host the league-leading Edmundston Blizzard (7-8-3-0) at Eastlink Arena on Thursday at 7 p.m.
