LANTZ, N.S. – It has been a tough first two days for the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild at the 2018 Atlantic major midget hockey championship tournament.

 

The Wild is 0-3 (won-lost) in the round-robin format, which features the provincial champions from P.E.I., Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and the host Cole Harbour Wolfpack. The top two teams after round-robin play, which concludes Saturday, advance to Sunday afternoon’s final.
Nova Scotia-champion Dartmouth Steele Subaru trimmed the Wild 8-2 in the opening game of the round-robin tournament, which features the provincial champions from P.E.I., Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and the host Cole Harbour Wolfpack. The Wolfpack then held on for a 4-3 decision over the Wild in the final game Day 1.
Friday, the Wild lost 5-2 to the Moncton Flyers in an all-New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League clash.
The Wild will play their final round-robin game at the East Hants Sportsplex is against Newfoundland and Labrador’s St. John’s Maple Leafs on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

Flyers 5 Wild 2
Yannic Bastarache (1-2), Cole Stewart (1-2), Patrick LeBlanc (1-1) and Lukas Cormier (1-1) dented the twine for the Flyers.
Evan Gallant, who has scored five of the Wild’s seven goals at the Atlantic championship, and Frank Fortin answered for Kensington. Carter Cahill, Zac Arsenault and William Proud were credited with helpers.
Moncton built period leads of 1-0 and 5-2.
Winning goaltender Daniel Thompson was tested 31 times. Chad Arsenault had a busier night in the Wild net, facing 44 shots.

Wolfpack 4 Wild 3
Cole Julian (2-1), Liam Kidney (1-1) and Josh Farmer scored for the Wolfpack.
Gallant scored all three Wild goals while helpers were credited to Isaac Callaghan (3), Chandler Wood (2) and Arsenault.
The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period, but the difference in the game was three unanswered second-period goals by the Wolfpack in less than two minutes that opened up a 4-1 advantage after 40 minutes.
Winning goaltender Kelly Griffin stopped 27 of 30 shots. Wild starter Caleb Coyle blocked 17 of 21 shots, and Chad Arsenault stopped all 11 shots he faced in relief.

Steele Subaru 8 Wild 2
William Robinson (2), Matthew MacKay, Ben Allison, Jacob Quillan, Issac Chapman, Benjamin Roode and David Gagnon scored for Dartmouth.
Gallant (1-1) and Wood replied for the Wild. Cahill, Proud and Clark Webster added assists.
Dartmouth built period leads of 2-0 and 4-1.
Winning goaltender Stewart Bagnell faced 29 shots. Coyle faced 19 shots and Arsenault was tested 15 times for the Wild. Both Kensington goaltenders allowed four goals.
