The Varsity Reds, who are coached by Bedeque native Gardiner MacDougall, edged the Saint Mary’s Huskies 2-1 at the Halifax Forum on Tuesday night to win the best-of-five semifinal series in four games. UNB will host the St. Francis Xavier X-Men in Game 1 of the best-of-three final on Monday night.

The X-Men swept the Acadia Axemen in the other semifinal series.

Mark Simpson’s short-handed goal at 3:07 of the third period broke a 1-1 tie.

Charlie Cameron of Kinkora is an assistant coach with UNB, and former Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capital Thomas Stavert of Kensington plays with the Huskies. Former Capital Chris Caissy plays with the Varsity Reds.
