The Islanders jumped right into an intrasquad game today and will have another opportunity tonight at 7 p.m. at the APM Centre in Cornwall.

“The compete level was there,” Hulton said. “There were guys battling hard for positions and that is what you like to see out of Day 1.”

Team White defeated Team Black 3-0 behind goals from Drew Johnston, Jack Desroches and Gregor MacLeod (empty net marker).

Dakota Lund-Cornish and Marc-Antoine Dufour shared the shut out while Matthew Welsh and Thomas Gayle were in goal for Team Black.

“I don't really like losing any game,” veteran forward Keith Getson said, “but I guess it’s the start of camp, so we’ll let that one slide and try and win tonight.”

Winger Dillon Boucher, who is off the ice with knee injury, coached Team White while defenceman Hunter Drew, out with an ankle injury, was behind the bench for Team Black.

“He was impressive. A nice debut for him,” Hulton said of Boucher.
