Southside Lynx wins pair of junior C contests this weekend

CRAPAUD – The Southside Lynx may have the highest-scoring team in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League, but they also proved they can play defence as well.

The Lynx gave up just three goals in a pair of weekend wins – 5-1 over the Belfast Sabres and 6-2 over the North River Flames. The Lynx opened up a five-point lead over the Sabres and Flames in the league standings.

Southside is 10-1-0, Belfast is 7-3-1 and North River is 7-4-1. Belfast is scheduled to visit Tignish on Sunday night.

In other weekend action, North River trimmed the Summerside Crunch 12-2 and the Sherwood-Parkdale Metros dropped the Morell Flyers 8-3.

Lynx 6 Flames 2

At the South Shore Actiplex in Crapaud on Saturday, Colton Dawson (2), Brandon Adams (1-2), Brady VanderVelden (1-1), Ryan Beckingham and CJ McCardle lit the lamp for the Lynx, who scored four unanswered third-period goals.

Brandon Watts and Matt Lange answered for North River.

The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period, and 2-2 following the second.

Winning goaltender was Sean MacPhee.

Lynx 5 Sabres 1

At the Belfast Recreation Centre on Friday, McCardle (2), Garrett Murray (1-1), Jake Larsen (1-1) and Michael Lawless (1-1) accounted for Southside’s scoring.

Brett Driscoll netted the lone North River goal.

The Lynx built period leads of 2-1 and 4-1.

MacPhee picked up the goaltending win.

Flames 12 Crunch 2

At The Plex in Slemon Park on Friday, North River jumped out to period leads of 6-1 and 10-1.

Ethan MacFadyen (3-1), Matt Craig (2-3), Jarrod MacAdam (2-2), Zack Wight (2-1), Spencer Beaton (2-1) and Connor Andrews (1-3) netted North River’s goals.

Riley Lavander and Colton Morris answered for the Crunch.

Andrew Gallant was the winning goaltender.

Metros 8 Flyers 3

At the Morell Community Rink, Tanner McLean (2-1), Logan Toole (2-1), Owen Arsenault (1-3), Brandon Sullivan (1-1), Jake Arsenault (1-1) and Evan Feehan scored for the Metros (6-3-1).

Stephen O’Shea, Kaelin Fisher and Connor Curran replied for the Flyers (2-10-1).

The Metros led 3-0 after the first period, and 5-2 following 40 minutes.

Blake Arsenault and Jacob Bartlett shared the Metros’ goaltending duties.
