The series opens at the O’Leary Community Sports Centre on Saturday. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m.
“I thought Wellington would be a milder series as far as physicality goes,” said Adams of the Maroons’ semifinal matchup with the Wellington Flyers. That series turned out to be quite physical.
“It will be a rugged, drag-‘em-out series,” Adams said of what the Maroons are expecting against the Regals.
The Maroons might have won all three of their regular-season games against Alberton, but Adams said that record does not mean much come playoff time.
Goaltending will usually carry the way in the post-season, Adams said, expressing confidence in starter Denton Rogers.
Equally confident
Regals head coach Spencer Myers is equally confident in his starting netminder, Spencer Rennie. Myers pointed out Rennie was instrumental in the Regals’ semifinal series against the Tignish Aces. Alberton also won its series three-straight.
Myers said the Saturday start means two of his key players will be absent due to their coaching commitments with the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League’s Alberton-based Western Regals, who also have a playoff game that night. The rest of his team is healthy and ready to go, he said.
Success against the regular-season-champion Maroons will depend on strong defence, Myers said. “Ned O’Brien, Kirk Ramsay, Taylor Smith and Skylar Hustler, they are going to have to have a big series,” said Myers.
The Maroons will still be without Chase Dyment and Mitchell Phillips for the start of the series, and defenceman Morgan Cooke still has three games to serve on a four-game suspension.
Game 2 of the series is in Alberton on Wednesday at 8:15 p.m.
