Team P.E.I.'s hockey teams for the Canada Games in Prince George, B.C., in February was announced today.
The selection of both teams began in 2012, through a variety of camps and events. Hockey P.E.I. said both teams used recent events to make their final selections in which the girls team attended the Atlantic Challenge Cup in Moncton; and the boys team participated in a pre-Canada Winter Games event early October in Charlottetown.
“After a couple grueling years, we are pleased to see that both teams have completed their selection process and now the 40 players and staff named to Team P.E.I. can focus their attention on the Canada Games in Prince George in February," said Hockey P.E.I. president Goops Wooldridge.
“We extend congratulations to all the players selected and wish them the best of luck. We trust you will enjoy this unique experience and we know that you will represent our province with pride."
The girls will compete in Week 1 (Feb. 13 to 20) is in a pool with Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia.
The boys will compete in Week 2 (Feb. 22 to March 1) and will play Newfoundland/Labrador, Yukon and Northwest Territories in round-robin action.
