Panthers thumped by X-Men in AUS hockey

ANTIGONISH, N.S. – The St. FX X-Men built a 7-0 lead after two periods and cruised to an 8-4 win over the UPEI Panthers Saturday in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action.

Eric Locke led the way with three goals in Antigonish, N.S., while Matt Needham, Kristoff Kontos and Cole MacDonald all had three assists.
Bryson Cianfrone and Michael Clarke each had a goal and an assist while Jagger Dirk, Regan Spears and Anthony Difruscia rounded out the scoring.
Austin Levi, Cody Payne, Nelson Armstrong and Beni Berisha scored for the Panthers. Casey Babineau, Riley Whittingham, Chad Labelle, Brock Beukeboom, Gabe Guertler and J.C. Campagna had assists.
Brandon Hope made 28 saves for the win while Matt Mahalak allowed seven goals on 29 shots before being replaced by Connor Wilkinson, who stopped seven of eight shots.
Derek Ryckman, Kurt Etchegary and Sam Aulie each received game misconducts for the Panthers while Brent Turnbull and Spears also received game misconducts for the X-Men.
St. FX is 9-4-0 while UPEI is 5-5-2 and host undefeated UNB (10-0-2) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
