The inaugural UPEI Men's Hockey Hot Stove Night was a bonafide success and the second edition is coming together just as well, says Ron Carragher of the Friends of UPEI Men's Hockey.
"Last year we thought we would try the Hot Stove Night as a fundraiser for the Panthers and we weren't sure how people would take to it," said Carragher, a former Panthers captain. "It was a lot of fun and the stories and chance to mix and mingle was a hit."
A pair of former UPEI Panthers – San Jose Sharks forward Joel Ward and Sportsnet hockey analyst Doug MacLean – will headline this year’s event on Aug. 4 at McMillan Hall of the W.A. Murphy Centre on the UPEI campus.
“One of the reasons the event last year was so successful is because of the calibre of the hot stove last year with Dave Cameron, Gerard Gallant and Mike Kelly and we have definitely maintained that level this year with Joel Ward and Doug MacLean," said UPEI head coach Forbes MacPherson.
The night offers a chance to mix and mingle beforehand and to ask questions during the hot stove portion of the night. Later in the evening there will also be a special ceremony recognizing Ward's playing time with the Panthers.
"It should be another special night," MacPherson said.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 each and can be purchased by contacting, MacPherson at [email protected], Ron Carragher at [email protected], Lennie Kelly at [email protected] or Mike O'Brien at 902-566-1984.
