Tenacity Hockey, which is founded, owned and operated by Billy McGuigan, brothers and pro hockey players Brett and Alex Gallant and Eric Morency, will hold camps for different age groups at Credit Union Place during the week of Aug. 14 to 18.
“We are looking forward to working with the kids of Summerside and giving back to the community,” said Brett, who played last season with the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League (AHL). “It’s something that Summerside needs and we are hoping to run a real good hockey school, have a lot of fun and teach the kids a little bit.”
McGuigan noted the camps will focus on individual skills, with and without pucks, edgework, shooting and passing.
“I’ve been asked the question, ‘Is it for elite players, or is it for anyone?,’” said McGuigan. “It’s really for anyone, but at the end of the day we have an elite staff with an elite structure.”
Camps will be held for skills, novice and atom players.
“It’s a great age group to work with,” said Alex. “I’ve done stuff like this before, and I’m looking forward to doing it again.
“I worked at the Boys and Girls Club for years, and I love working with the kids. It will be exciting to get them out on the ice, and help them get better.”
McGuigan said the young players will benefit from the Gallants.
“To have guys like Brett and Alex on the ice and you talk about young kids trying to make it, these are two of the greatest stories in P.E.I. history, even Canadian history,” said McGuigan. “Both guys were Summerside Western Capitals at 20 years old, both won championships and both did it the hard way. They did it on pure grit, determination and work ethic. If you want to learn about what it takes to get to the next level, these two have figured out how to do that.”
