KENSINGTON – It’s going the distance!
The Sherwood-Parkdale Metros defeated the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers 4-1 on Friday night to force a seventh and deciding game in the best-of-seven Island Junior Hockey League semifinal series at the Cody Banks Arena on Sunday. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Metros, who faced a 3-1 series deficit, have rebounded with two straight wins to force a Game 7. The winner of this series will face the defending-champion Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings in the best-of-seven championship series.
At Credit Union Centre in Kensington, Cody McPhee scored twice while Pat McGuigan (1-1) and Connor McGregor added single goals for the Metros. Connor Gray (3), Alex Hall (2) and Jordan Birt added assists.
Campbell Gallant, assisted by Easton Smith and Riley Gallant, staked the Vipers to a brief 1-0 lead in the first period.
The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the opening frame, but the Metros opened up a 4-1 advantage after 40 minutes.
Alex Kelly earned the goaltending win over Rett Rook. The final shots-on-goal totals were 41-40 in favour of the Metros.
